Ramón Ant. Victoriano-Martínez

Ramón Ant. Victoriano-Martínez (Arturo) is the Acting Director of the Caribbean Studies Program and a Lecturer of Spanish at the University of Toronto. Arturo's main focus has recently been on Dominican identity and how it manifests itself in the 21st century. Departing from the tropes of the rayano (the one that comes from the border) and the Dominicanyork he analyses the contentious relationship between Dominican Republic, Haiti and the United States. This analysis is presented in his book Rayanos y Dominicanyorks: la dominicanidad del siglo XXI (Instituto Internacional de Literatura Iberoamericana, 2014). Arturo is currently  working on a project that traces the different representations of Santo Domingo in Dominican cultural production in a chronological and historical arch that presents a panoramic vision of the relationship between narrative, music, poetry and the oldest capital in the Hispanic Caribbean.
