Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Please take a look through our FAQs, which we hope cover everything you need to know. If you have a query not answered by these FAQs then please contact graduation@qmul.ac.uk.

Who can attend the ceremonies?

We have 3 main ceremony sets: Winter, Spring, and Summer. Which ceremony you can attend will depend on a number of criteria including when your course starts and finishes, whether you have deferred, and whether you are an UG or PG student.

You can read more about who will be invited to the ceremonies on our web page.

What deadlines should I be aware of?

For each ceremony set, there will be a series of deadlines you need to be aware of.

The Deadlines for Winter 24/25 ceremonies are:

Bookings open: 17 September 2024 (at staggered times)
Extra ticket sales open: 21st October (Midday)
Extra ticket sales close: 25th October (Midday)
Refund request deadline: 15 January 2025 (Midday)

Bookings and Ticketing

When will I be able to book my place at my graduation ceremony?

Bookings for Winter Graduation 24/25 have now closed.

If you have not booked your graduate ticket the period to do so has now past, as we now prepare for the ceremonies. You are welcome to join a ceremony period in the future by completing the deferral form. Please note you can only defer your graduation for up to 2 years after your award date. You can do this by completing this form. We will then contact you again 3 months before the ceremony period you select in the deferral form with a new graduation date and time.

Extra Tickets

As we prepare for the ceremonies, we can no longer take online ticket sales. Any remaining tickets and/or additional tickets that become available from students who are no longer eligible to graduate, will be sold at the Graduation Extra Ticket sale desk starting two hours before the ceremony on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that the availability of extra tickets cannot be guaranteed. You do not need to contact us about securing further guest tickets as we cannot reserve this ahead of sales on the day.

Please note that tickets are non-transferable between graduates and guests and will not scan successfully if passed to a friend.

Please find the full schedule on our Winter Graduation Page.

What tickets are available for my graduation ceremony and how much do they cost?

Student tickets are free of charge and include access to the ceremony, a graduation programme and access to the post ceremony reception (1 food item and 1 drink).

Students will initially be able to purchase 2 guest tickets for the ceremony, and one live relay ticket. Students can register an interest in purchasing additional tickets for guests when making a booking.

Only students who register interest in additional tickets will be eligible to purchase extra tickets if they are made available.

Guest tickets for the ceremony are £25 each and include access to the ceremony and access to the post ceremony reception (1 food item and 1 drink). Live relay tickets cost £5 each and cover access to the live relay for 1 adult and two children under 5 years of age, and access to the post ceremony reception (no food or drink included but it will be possible to purchase on the day.) If you would like to purchase programmes for your guests, these will be available to purchase on the day of your ceremony, or in advance when you purchase your tickets.

Are children permitted to attend graduation?

Children under the age of 5 are not permitted to enter the ceremony hall and are recommended to sit in the live relay theatre.

Graduates who are parents or guardians of a child under the age of 5 can contact the Events and Ceremonies Team at graduation@qmul.ac.uk to enquire about specific tickets available.

What information will I need when I book my ticket?

You will require your Student Number, in order to book.

Your student ID number is a 9 digit number. For new students starting in 2024/25, your ID number will begin with '24' or '25' (e.g. 241234567). It is the username that you use to access MySIS and it is also displayed within MySIS, within the 'My Details' tab.

You will also require a Credit/Debit card to make payment for gown hire and for any guest tickets you wish to purchase.

We understand that even with other transport options being available, some of our students and their guests may not be able to make it to their graduation ceremony, should strikes be announced. Students / guests who are no longer able to attend due to strikes may request refunds.
