History in Practice (HiP) focuses on the history of the East End, the ever-changing location of Queen Mary University of London, beginning with its medieval origins and ending with the area’s recent gentrification. During the the module you will engage actively with local history, analysing documents and artefacts, exploring public history outside the classroom, and learning how to write a research essay and present your work effectively in class. The module is designed as a practical introduction to studying history, in which you will reflect on what historians do, and acquire the skills needed to succeed in your degree.
Assessment: Mock Submission 5%, Essay (2,000 words) 50%, Learning Log (1,000 words) 25% and Group Presentation 20% Level: 4
