From online activism to protests at the impact of government policies, recent years have witnessed a resurgence of feminist activity in Great Britain. While specific circumstances have changed, many recent campaigns are motivated by concerns also raised by an earlier generation of activists.
Inspired by the new Sisterhood and Afteroral history archive, women who participated in that project have been invited to speak about the movement with researchers currently working on the history of the movement and its various campaigns. Through a series of sessions on race, sexualities, reproductive choice, the rise of women's history, and class and work, we will both celebrate and critically examine British second wave feminism and its legacy. There will be lots of time for audience members to pose their own questions and provide their own memories of the time, so we encourage anyone with an interest to attend. The day will close with a question: what now for the women's movement?
