MAKING CONNECTIONS BETWEEN MEANING, MOVEMENT, MUSIC AND TEXT IN THEATRE

Lloyd Newson, the Artistic Director of DV8 Physical Theatre will present a talk on "Making connections between meaning, movement, music and text in theatre"

Lloyd’s talk is presented as part of a Leverhulme Trust Award in the Centre for the History of Emotions (QMUL) and will include a discussion about his artistic process, the themes that drive DV8’s work and his interest in verbatim theatre.

Lloyd Newson’s DV8 Physical Theatre has won more than 50 international awards for its stage and film works, including an International Emmy and 3 Prix Italias.

About Lloyd Newson:

Newson studied psychology and social work at Melbourne University. After graduating he changed career path and became a dancer and choreographer working with a number of professional companies before forming DV8 Physical Theatre in 1986. Straddling dance, text, theatre and film, Newson’s work crosses many art forms. He is interested in conceiving original work rather than performing existing plays. Since 2007 he has focused on exploring verbatim theatre, looking at the relationship between text and movement. His new work draws on interviews he has conducted with 50 men about their lives and sexuality.
