The School of History at Queen Mary is pleased to announce that it has achieved excellent results in the Research Excellence Framework. Its research power ranking – which combines the quality and quantity of research – places it 11th in the UK and 4th in London (using THES REF analysis). 75% of the research carried out by the School’s historians has been judged as either ‘world-leading’ (4*) or ‘internationally excellent’ (3*). 92% of its research impact beyond the world of universities has been judged at the same level.
The School is especially proud that the environment in which it does its research and which is home to its undergraduate and postgraduate students, its post-doctoral fellows and its research centres, was rated as 100% in the highest two grades, 70% of which was at 4*. This success puts the School of History fourth among UK History departments.
The School’s performance testifies to the international quality of the research done by its historians. It also reflects the hard work and collegiality with which the School of History approached REF2014. What it means is that the School of History at Queen Mary continues to be a centre of excellence in historical research and in dynamic and exciting research-led teaching for its undergraduates and postgraduates.
