Beryl Morris Bursary programme

Beryl Morris studied History at Queen Mary University of London in the 1940s and was the first in her family to attend university. She came from a working-class background and wouldn’t have been able to pursue her academic ambitions without the support of her mother.

The School of History is grateful to be able to offer two bursaries through the generous gift Beryl’s family donated in her memory.

About the award

Berryl Morris at her graduationThe Beryl Morris Bursary programme has been established to support UK undergraduate History students facing hardship. The objective of this programme is to support (for the duration of their studies) students who encounter unexpected hardship in their first year which the provision of financial support could mitigate. By doing so, the programme aims to ensure that deserving students, who may otherwise have dropped out of education, are enabled to continue their studies at Queen Mary.

Therefore, students who may be considering leaving higher education because of financial difficulties are particularly encouraged to apply. Preference may also be given to students who are first in their families to attend higher education and those who attended state schools.
