The Fire Safety Team carry out Evacuation Drills at least annually in all Queen Mary buildings.
Fire Risk Assessments are carried out by the Fire Safety Team in line with a risk-based programme.
The risk-based programme considers a range of factors, but broadly speaking buildings will fall into three categories:
- Category 1 are higher risk residential buildings.
- Category 2 are lower risk residential buildings; this category also includes higher risk non-residential buildings.
- Category 3 are lower risk non-residential buildings.

The Fire Safety Team prepare a range of policies, standards and guidance notes to support staff and students whilst working and studying at Queen Mary.
The Fire Safety Team prepare Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEP)
If you require a PEEP, please complete the online Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan Questionnaire.
The Fire Safety Team provides fire safety training to Queen Mary staff, students and volunteers.
Fire Safety Awareness
Fire Safety Awareness training is available CPD Booking System.
Fire Marshal
Training is delivered in-person and course dates can be found on the CPD Booking System.
Safe Use of Fire Extinguishers
This training is currently under review.
Safe Use of Evacuation Equipment
Training is delivered in-person and course dates can be found on the CPD Booking System.
Alternative Training Delivery
The Fire Safety Team are committed to ensure that training is accessible to everyone, and whilst each subject has a predominate delivery method, we can deliver Fire Safety Awareness and Fire Marshal Training in alternative formats.
Bespoke Training
