Queen Mary Health and Safety Induction (New Starters)

Each member of staff should receive a health and safety induction when starting at the University, or when moving to a new School, Institute or Directorate. This involves two steps:

  1. Completing the online mandatory health & safety training
  2. Completing the H&S induction form with your Line Manager and/or local Safety Coordinator

Online CPD H&S Induction Training Module

The mandatory induction module (Health & Safety Essentials) can be found on the CPD Training Platform. To access it, follow the steps below:

1. Login to the CPD Training Platform (access here) and select course finder (from the menu at the top of the page)

2. Click on the word 'All' and then select 'Mandatory Training' from the drop-down menu

3. Click on Health & Safety Essentials, then enrol and complete the training

H&S Induction Form

This induction checklist is to be completed by all new starters with support from their Line Manager and/or local Safety Coordinator. Managers should refer to the induction crib sheet for further guidance on what information should be covered under each induction topic.

Who should carry out the health and safety induction?

The staff member’s line manager is responsible for ensuring that they receive a health and safety induction. The task of going through the induction, can be delegated to a competent individual e.g. the local Safety Coordinator, the Office Manager.

When planning induction programmes, it is important to give staff adequate time to complete mandatory training and to read essential health and safety information and instructions.

Training
