In the Hub for Professional Practice we will be building upon the pioneering models of practice-based education which the School of Law at Queen Mary University of London has created over many years, working with industry partners.
Since 2015, we have led the sector in building placement year degree models in partnership with leading law firms. The award-winning Law in Practice LLB programme was established in 2014 and now has a range of law firms, an in-house legal team, alternative legal services providers, legal technology businesses, and a charity offering placement year opportunities to our students. These year-long placements give students the opportunity to gain in-depth experience of different areas of legal practice and also to gain insight into what a “law firm of the future” will look like – spending time on practice innovation projects and experimenting with the new technologies being used to evolve legal service delivery.
Building on this unique base of experience in integrating education with practical experience, our goal in the Hub for Professional Practice is always to create more workplace-focused degree models and qualifications, helping practitioners at all stages of their career development and partnering with industry leaders. As another example of this work, we are currently exploring the creation of an innovative degree apprenticeship model with employers.
