We spoke to BSc Biomedical Sciences student Nadia to learn more about what it's like to represent Queen Mary as a Student Ambassador.
I joined the scheme because of my enthusiasm to try new things! It allows students to represent the University on a flexible basis and new ambassadors are recruited every year. Ambassadors help out at a number of events including open days, higher education fairs and offer-holder days. We are often also given the opportunity to work for different departments at Queen Mary, such as the international and events teams. One cool thing I’ve been part of is airport collections, where we pick up and drop off new international students!
You get to meet others who share the same enthusiasm for representing the University; it’s a way to socialise!
There are so many! Here’s a few:
Now, this area was difficult to write for me – and I spent a good few minutes thinking about what I could possibly describe as the cons. I then remembered the quote “all good things come to an end” and in this case, it is very true; it's bittersweet that I have now graduated, and my role as a Student Ambassador has come to an end.
Overall, I’ve loved being part of the scheme. You often get a buzz from helping out at events – this can be described as a pro too! I often get a sense of satisfaction from knowing that I’ve answered a student’s question about university – knowing that I’ve made a difference in someone’s decision to choose Queen Mary. I enjoy being able to offer them advice and a true insight into the course.
