Neuroscience - Expertise, opportunities and experiences from two renowned Schools

When you study Neuroscience at Queen Mary, you will benefit from interdisciplinary expertise and opportunities at every level. Our Neuroscience programme is fed into by leading academics from two different Schools - the School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences (SBBS) and Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry.

Both these Schools are renowned for their academic rigour, pioneering research and for empowering students with vital practical experience. You’ll be taught by experts across several disciplines, enhancing your knowledge and confidence in areas such as cognitive psychology, genetics, pharmacology, chemistry and biology.

The School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences is a leading multi-disciplinary institution which sits at the interface between biology and psychology, healthy-ageing, organismal biology and biochemistry. World-leading discoveries have come as a result of the School’s work, such as Michael Dewar’s use of computers to understand organic reactions.

The School has strong and long-running links with institutions such as the Natural History Museum and Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, as well as close links to industry partners such as GlaxoSmithKline and the Environment Agency.

Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry is one of the oldest medical schools in the UK, ranked consistently highly both nationally and globally in teaching and research. Institutes within the School have been behind ground-breaking research in cancer, cardiovascular, inflammation, trauma and population health.

As a member of the School, you’ll be part of a biomedical research institute that integrates all stages of research from basic science through to clinical studies, and you’ll also have access to a General Medical Council-commended student support and mentoring programme.
