Where could Neuroscience at Queen Mary take you? 

Neuroscience has a vast range of exciting applications. While many of our graduates pursue a careers in neuroscience and pharmaceutical research, industry and the commercial or public sector, many are able to use the transferrable skills our programme provides to enter different sectors including media, management and technology. 

Recent graduates have built careers for organisations such as GSK, NHS England, EY, Deloitte, the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. Princess Alexandra Hospital. London Imaging Centre, Great Ormond Street Hospital, and the Institute of Cancer Research. 

Careers which Neuroscience graduates are well-suited for include clinical science, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical device manufacturing and contract research organisation.

For those of you who decide to forge a career in publishing or the media, whether you’re working for a scientific journal or have gone into science reporting there are a number of fascinating and advancing areas to cover in which public understanding is increasingly vital. These are Neuroethics – the social, legal and ethical consequences of advances in brain research; Neuroeconomics – risk-taking and decision making which impacts business and the economy; Neuroprosthetics - the interface between humans and machines; Neuroaesthetics – creativity and the brain and Neurotechnology – combining engineering and IT with Neuroscience.

Where could Biomedical Sciences at Queen Mary take you? 

A degree in Biomedical Sciences provides an ideal foundation for studying Medicine or Dentistry, and many of our graduates go on to qualify in these fields. However, our graduates can be found in a diverse range of industries.

Biomedical Sciences graduates are in high demand in the pharmaceutical and diagnostics industries, and many of our graduates go into clinical and laboratory work, postgraduate research and science communication. Others enter sectors such as marketing and finance – some of our recent graduates have been hired by EY, PwC, Great Ormond Street Hospital, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.

Where could Medical Genetics at Queen Mary take you?

A degree in Medical Genetics provides an ideal foundation for studying Medicine or Dentistry, as you will have studied a wide range of biomedical subjects and developed an in-depth knowledge of medicines. As such, many of our graduates go on to qualify in these fields. However, our graduates can be found in a diverse range of industries.

Recent graduates of our Medical Genetics programme have been hired by employers including Genomics England, the NHS, Public Health England and the Institute of Cancer Research.

Examples of roles taken up include Clinical Trials Officer, Tissue Bank Officer, and Clinical Research Technician. Others transfer the skills they have gained into areas as diverse as media, technology and management.

Many of our students also progress to further study. Recent Medical Genetics graduates have gained places on courses including MSc Biological Sciences, MSc Genomic Medicine and MBBS Medicine (Graduate Entry Programme).

Where could Pharmacology and Innovative Therapeutics at Queen Mary take you?

The pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries have identified Pharmacology – the study of medicines – as a major skills gap. By studying our Pharmacology and Innovative Therapeutics BSc, you’ll be well placed to meet the shortfall.

Graduates of our Pharmacology and Innovative Therapeutics course commonly go into the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, medicines regulation, or research and academia. Others transfer the skills they have gained into areas as diverse as media, technology and management.

A degree in Pharmacology also provides an ideal foundation for studying Medicine or Dentistry, as you will have studied a wide range of biomedical subjects and developed an in-depth knowledge of medicines. As such, many of our graduates go on to qualify in these fields.

Top graduates of this programme can apply for sponsored doctoral training at the William Harvey Research Institute at Barts, which is the UK’s largest pharmacology research institute and the recipient of a ‘UK Pharmacology on the Map’ award.
