Complement the academic side of your studies and gain vital professional experience with a Year Industry, which is available across all of our Chemical Science programmes to students who achieve at least 60 per cent in their studies.
This is a brilliant opportunity to give yourself a head-start after graduating through work experience in a real-world setting, where you’ll be able to practice and hone the skills you’ve been taught. A number of our students have been awarded highly-regarded placements within pharmaceutical companies in the UK and internationally. These typically take place in your third year.
In preparation, during the course of your second year, you’ll research and identify an opportunity within an appropriate organisation. We’ll make sure you’re supported throughout this process by your supervisor who’ll be on hand to offer advice and guidance. If your application is successful, then your third year is spent either on work experience in the pharmaceutical industry or working on your research project.
You can further diversify your learning experience with a Study Abroad option across our Chemical Sciences programme. Students are able to use Queen Mary’s links with a number of partner institutions in Europe, North America, Asia and Australia. Please note that these partnerships vary depending on your programme. There are a whole raft of exciting benefits to studying abroad. From learning a new language, exploring a new culture and boosting your confidence, you will come away with sought-after transferrable skills, and some excellent stories.
If you’re considering a career in academic or industrial research, you’ll have the opportunity to boost your three-year BSc to a four-year MSci through spending an extra year undertaking an extended research project and studying advances modules.
