Role of the Line Manager

Commitment to the induction process is vital for helping new colleagues settle into their roles.  Line managers are responsible for inducting new team members, identifying their development needs, and providing support. Time should be set aside, especially during the first day and week.

Why Induction is necessary

Putting Our Values into Action

Our Values in action describes how we can translate Queen Mary's Values into expectations that we should have of ourselves and of each other; of how we act and interact with each other every day. These Values are cornerstones of how we recruit, appraise and reward all our staff.

Alleviating anxieties

Induction helps all new colleagues, including those changing roles within the University, to settle in. New colleagues may feel anxious about fitting in, meeting job demands, and integrating with others. A thorough induction by line managers can alleviate these concerns and direct them to additional resources.

Benefits of a sound induction process

A robust induction helps new colleagues quickly adapt to their roles and the work environment, leading to increased effectiveness, benefitting both the organisation and the team.
