Hi,

My name is Alukeny Neínda-Manuel and I am a lawyer from Luanda, Angola.

I studied an LLM (Master of Laws) International Business Law in 2019/2020 as a Chevening Scholar. I chose Queen Mary University of London due to its prestigious and wide-ranging postgraduate law programmes. As a member of both the University of London and the Russell Group, QMUL is well known among international students for promoting strong critical-thinking and research skills. You also have seminars led, not only by fully qualified lecturers, but by leading legal professionals in worldwide recognised firms. Also, QMUL provides over than fifty law LLM programmes, allowing you to choose between more than 200 modules. This way, you can personalize your LLM in order to better suit your interests and career path.

The Centre for Commercial Law Studies is located in Lincoln’s Inn Fields, which is near the Royal Courts of Justice and several law firms and barristers’ chambers.

Being a PG student in QMUL was an amazing experience. There were always events and seminars promoted by a well-organized Student’s Union and QMUL, in which you get to listen to the best professionals in the world debating about current matters. They were great networking opportunities in which I got to meet and share ideas with students and professionals from around the world and with different backgrounds, allowing me to grow not only as a professional but as person.

There are so many tools provided by QMUL that enable you to be a great student and help you manage your career. For instance, you may book a 1-1 appointment to discuss your CV or a mock job interview with the Careers Office. A panoply of workshops related with working in the UK as an international student is also available! Moreover, having been selected for the PG Mentoring Programme, I benefited from valued professional and life advice of an international legal expert that I will put in practice for the rest of my life.

QMUL is also worried about our welfare. They have specialized infrastructures to deal with mental health, studying abroad, being homesick, and other issues that concern students, while they are navigating through a demanding course.

By studying in QMUL you get the best of both worlds: be part of a world leading university and enjoy the London experience for a year! London is such a multicultural city that you will never get bored. It was a once-in-lifetime experience that allowed me to meet wonderful people, participate in unique events, gain important skills and improve my English proficiency!

Please feel free to contact me anytime if you need additional information on the International Business Law course, life as an international student or any other issues!
