Over the years, many thousands of international students have graduated from the university and gone on to pursue successful careers. Today, we are home to students from more than 162 different countries and over 45% of our student body come from outside of the UK. This diversity contributes to a lively and welcoming community which should make you feel comfortable and at home.

We are one of the largest colleges of the University of London and one of the few with fully integrated teaching, research and residential facilities. Our setting provides our students with the benefits of both a large campus environment, and the countless academic and social opportunities provided by London.

There are currently 155 students from Cyprus studying at Queen Mary who are enrolled on a range of degree programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Hello! My name is Marie Thomas and I have the honour of stating I am a graduate of Queen Mary University of London. I obtained a law degree (LL.B) in 2011 and a Masters of Laws (LL.M in Commercial and Corporate Law) in 2012.

If you are considering applying to universities in London, Queen Mary is the one. It is difficult for me to sum up my experiences at Queen Mary which I would like to share with you simply because there are so many. Nevertheless, I can say with confidence that my experiences have been rewarding, both academically and personally. The professors are of the upmost standard and are always willing to help students do their best. The student life is vibrant and diverse and I am lucky to have made long- lasting friendships. One of Queen Mary's perks is its campus; it is one of the few, if not the only one in London, which provides everything on site. It is convenient, compact, comfortable and allows students to enjoy the student life combined with living in one of the busiest capitals in Europe. Before I knew it, it felt like home.

The Cypriot community at Queen Mary continues to expand as Queen Mary is becoming more popular every year. I currently live part- time in both England(London) and Cyprus(Nicosia) but I am always available; choosing the right university is a life-changing decision so please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns!

"I chose Queen Mary because of its high position in the university rankings for law. The location of London played an extremely important role as well. I have always been interested in a legal career and I also thought that I would enjoy putting myself up for a challenge. All of the lecturers come from a distinct academic background, quite often having written the textbooks we are being taught on. All of my tutors are extremely careful and patient with us. They also take great care to explain everything as clearly as they can. Living in London and on campus in the first year is amazing. You get to make a lot of friends and see many things that are unique to the city. I am involved with many volunteering activities on campus. I am part of the ASPIRE project, which gives school children from local areas the opportunity to try out Paralympic sports on a special event day we have been organising; I teach English to women of Bengali and Somali descent through SIFE, and I also fundraise for RAG (Raise and Give). The volunteering fair that took place on campus provided me with information about other volunteering opportunities in East London, and so I joined FoodCycle in Blomeley-by-Bow, where we cook affordable meals from donated surplus food. Everything is nearby which gives you the opportunity to be involved with the many things that go on campus. The availability of the library, QMotion and cafes and shops makes life so much easier, especially when sometimes things get a bit overwhelming."

"I have always wanted to study in London and chose to come to Queen Mary because of its extremely good reputation, especially for Law. When I arrived there were informative sessions about transport in London and arriving in the UK from other countries, which were very useful because it's different from merely coming on holiday and staying in London. The School of Law also had introductory courses which helped me grasp basic principles before the official start of lectures. London is a very exciting city. There so many things you can do that you can never get bored. The area around Queen Mary is a nice and there are a lot of developments currently taking place. The close location to Mile End tube station makes travelling, especially to central London, very easy."

Scholarships and Funding

There are a number of scholarships and funding options available for students wishing to pursue their studies at Queen Mary including our International Science and Engineering Excellence Awards, International Mathematical Sciences Excellence Awards, School of Law scholarships, School of Law Undergraduate Bursaries and School of Economics and Finance scholarships.

The fees for EU students are currently £9,000 per academic year. Tuition fees are not paid until a student officially enrols. EU students have the option to take out a Tuition Fee Loan from the UK Government. The fee is paid directly to the university on the student’s behalf and is administered by Student Finance England. Students can borrow the full fee, part of the fee or none of the fee each year of their study. You will pay back the Loan once you have finished studying and are earning over £21,000 a year. You can find out more on how to apply for a Tuition Fee Loan on the GOV.UK website.
