Entry requirements

Undergraduate

Students that have successfully completed A-Levels, the European Baccalaureate, or the International Baccalaureate will be considered for admissions to our undergraduate degrees.  

Please check the grade requirements for your chosen degree programme via the undergraduate study section of our website.

We also consider students from Denmark with the following qualifications:

• Bevis for Studentereksamen (STX) or Hojere Forberedelseseksamen (HF)

  Our exact requirements depend on the course that you are applying for, but students usually need to obtain a minimum mark of between 7.6 and 9.5 overall. You are likely to be asked for certain grades in relevant Level A subjects.

  This is QMUL’s equivalency table for GCE A-Levels and the STX/HF:

  Please see the information included in the English Language Requirements section below. The English component of the STX/HF/HHX/HTX can potentially be accepted instead of IELTS/TOEFL/Cambridge/Pearson etc. for undergraduate courses.

• UK foundation programme from either QMUL or certain other approved institutions

  Students whose grades do not meet our minimum requirements may be considered for entry onto one of our Foundation Programmes.

Please note, the STX/HF/HHX/HTX is not accepted for admission to either our MBBS or BDS programmes (but is accepted for all other undergraduate programmes).

"I had spent part of my childhood growing up in the UK and always wanted to come back here for university as the English educational system is among the best in the world.  I was keen to study in London and fell in love with Queen Mary after visiting.  It has a fantastic atmosphere due to the friendly campus which makes meeting people so much easier.

During the application process Queen Mary staff were extremely helpful. I experienced some difficulties with my grades translation but the admissions officer took time to meet with me, so I could explain how the Danish grade system works. The extra lengths the staff went to was a decisive factor in my decision to accept the offer from Queen Mary.

I've always wanted study law and now I’m halfway through my degree I can't imagine anything else I'd rather be doing. My lecturers are engaging, inspiring and truly brilliant teachers. Many of the Law academics have been (or still are) practitioners, which gives a unique approach to the law they are teaching.

A law degree is competitive and you are surrounded by really intelligent people, however you help push each other to do well. The course is diverse, challenging and due to the many networking events, the profession never seems too far away. It’s inspiring and very motivating

I am the Vice-Principal of the Bar Society (unfortunately this has little to do with trying cocktails at bars around London!). We are a society for prospective barristers, or anyone who might have an interest in the profession. Our aim is to educate people about the Bar as well as running competitions for mini-pupillages, going on court visits and inviting prominent people for networking.

Although university is hard work it is definitely worth it. I have to plan my time carefully to ensure my work gets done but still have an active social life. There are always lots of fun things going on around campus; whether that's partying at Drapers Bar or grabbing a burger with a friend at the Farmer's Market.

Queen Mary is based in East London which is a really exciting place to be. The nearest tube is a 5 minute walk away and the Central Line will take you right across London.

Studying at a campus university is great as everything is right there.  For first year students it makes the experience of starting university much less daunting.  You are always bumping into people you know and summer time is brilliant as everyone sits out on the lawn by the canal enjoying the sunshine!"

"Before I started at Queen Mary I worked as an Attorney-at-Law in a law firm in Copenhagen, Denmark. I worked with Intellectual Property on a daily basis but wanted to further develop my theoretical knowledge on the area. Queen Mary is renowned for its Intellectual Property related LLM courses and, along with my desire to study in London, Queen Mary became the obvious choice for my postgraduate study.  I received various scholarships from private companies and funds, which have been incredibly helpful, as they have contributed to covering my expenses during the year.

The classes are extremely interesting and although they’re challenging, all are very enjoyable. The professors at Queen Mary come from fascinating backgrounds, which provide them with a rare knowledge of important issues.  Furthermore, Queen Mary regularly invites various guest lecturers, who have all been very interesting.

I enjoy the tutorials the most as the students are divided in smaller groups discussing different issues and topics. The students come from different backgrounds so it is always fascinating to hear how other nationalities view certain problems.

Queen Mary was really helpful before I arrived; sending emails on a regular basis regarding accommodation, offers of language studies and informing me of how the introduction week would be scheduled from the day of enrolment until the classes started.  I was impressed at how supportive Queen Mary was and it made the transition period run very smoothly.

I love being a postgraduate student in London and enjoy nothing more than to explore this amazing city in my spare time. London has exceeded my greatest expectations and Queen Mary is located in a really exciting part of the city; Shoreditch is an amazing area for students due to its diverse population, great variety of food, famous fashion shops and incredible nightlife. It is my favourite area in London, although other places come close!"

Scholarships and Funding

There are a number of scholarships and funding options available for students wishing to pursue their studies at Queen Mary including our International Science and Engineering Excellence Awards, International Mathematical Sciences Excellence Awards, School of Law scholarships and School of Economics and Finance scholarships.

Undergraduate tuition fees for EU students are currently £9000 per academic year. Tuition fees are not paid until a student officially enrols. EU students have the option to take out a Tuition Fee Loan from the UK Government. The fee is paid directly to the university on the student’s behalf and is administered by Student Finance England. Students can borrow the full fee, part of the fee or none of the fee each year of their study. You will pay back the Loan once you have finished studying and are earning over £21,000 a year.
