LLM Banking and Finance

I have always wanted to live in London, as it is one of the most exciting cities in Europe. Further to this, I wanted to study finance and there is no better place than in the world's heart of business. There are a wide range of opportunities for an international student and the city is beyond fantastic.

The British approach to teaching is focused on debate and critical thinking; this makes classes very interesting and interaction between colleagues and teachers is highly regarded.  International student’s contributions to classes provide a wonderful discussion environment with various different perspectives.

Queen Mary offered the most interesting modules in Banking and Finance, taught by some of the worlds leading experts on the matter. It became an obvious choice to apply, and a goal to be accepted. I have been extremely impressed with my teachers, and guest speakers, as they have a profound knowledge of their field and are very inspiring.

In addition to my studies, I am currently the Vice President of the Careers Committee of the Queen Mary Postgraduate Law School. My colleagues and I try to focus on the challenges that international students encounter in everyday life. Queen Mary staff have provided us with all the support we need to carry out our on-going projects and even help with funding.

When I arrived at the airport at the beginning of term there was a team of Queen Mary staff to greet us and take us to the campus. Everybody was so welcoming and nice and couldn’t have been more helpful. When I arrived on campus, Queen Mary also had hospitality staff waiting for everybody, it was a brilliant reception.

I found meeting new people quite easy; apart from the Londoners inherently sociable and chatty spirit, the bursting international environment allows people with very different backgrounds to come together and bond very easily.  As I live on campus these bonds become even stronger as I am surrounded by a great group of people with whom I share the same interests. They have undoubtedly become my family away from home.

The campus is a wonderful place to live. It provides everything for students, from a safe environment and good accommodation, to supermarkets, a heath care centre, libraries, restaurants, and even a gym. Students appreciate the access to all these facilities in such a short distance and the campus also provides a perfect place to make new friends and meet fellow colleagues.

As a postgraduate student in London you have the best of both worlds. You study in one of the most vibrant and fascinating cities in the world.  The libraries and teachers are world class and the amount of seminars, conferences and networking events you can attend are endless. There is an amazing international and cultural scene that London has to offer and I’ve found it hard to compare it with any other place in Europe.

Shoreditch and Brick Lane are two of my favourite places in East London as they have amazing nightlife, restaurants and markets and cultural variety. Victoria Park is beautiful and perfect for walks on London's sunny days (yes they do exist and are very often!). Mile End is located on the central line and it’s literally 15 minutes away from the city centre and 20 minutes away from beautiful Greenwich on south side, just to name a few places.

LLM in Banking and Finance Law

After four years of working as a lawyer in Portugal I decided to develop my expertise in Banking and Financial Law.

Choosing to study an LLM at Queen Mary's Centre for Commercial Law Studies was, without a doubt, the perfect decision. The reasons for this are based on Queen Mary’s undisputable reputation and the high academic quality of the teaching staff.

Queen Mary also has many organizations and societies which mean that there are a great range of possibilities in terms of social activities. From parties to cultural events there is never a day off! Studying at Queen Mary has given me the perfect student experience in London

Scholarships and Funding
