Marking/grading schemes used at partner institutions are different from those used at Queen Mary. When you finish your studies at the partner institution, you will receive a transcript of records. This should be passed on to both your Queen Mary academic School/Department Coordinator and to the Global Opportunities Office upon completion of your studies. Your academic department* will then liaise with Registry, and with the Subject Examination Boards (SEBs) who will approve the conversion. This will be achieved with reference to:
You are required to enrol on and follow a full credit load at your host institution; failure to do so may cause you to fail your exchange abroad. Consult the required credit load for your destination here: Student Exchange Programme - Required credit loads at partners [PDF 373KB]
Following the conversion process, your modules followed abroad will appear in your Queen Mary academic record in one entry as a block of credit and not with individual marks for each module.
Contact your academic school if you have specific queries regarding your programme of study. Please consult respective Academic Regulations for details and also progression requirements.
The below conversion scales* have been approved by Queen Mary’s Taught Programme Board.
(*) SLLF: the above process and the below conversion scales do not apply in the same way to Modern Languages and Cultures degrees. These students are advised to consult with their academic department.
Department of Law: grades achieved during the year abroad are converted to Queen Mary grades to assess whether the student has passed or failed the year abroad, yet the exact grades average achieved abroad do not affect the student's overall average (i.e. degree classification) at Queen Mary. However, performance during the year abroad is taken into account at Queen Mary to decide borderline cases of degree classification (e.g. whether the degree will be 2.2 or 2.1).

As modifiers such as (+) and (-) do not tend to appear in final transcripts, students should submit copies of their received indeks* / entirety of their marks/documentation received that may include these modifiers, so that all information can be taken into account in the grade conversion process.
