The Technology Enhanced Learning Team (TELT) is: Alysa, Annette, Catherine, Clare, Danielle, Gill, John, Meg, Melanie, Raqib, Rume, Simon, Steve, Surjit and Zaheer.
Our expertise covers both the technical and educational so that we can advise on the effective use of learning technologies. Although we are one team, we are organised into three strands which have slightly different priorities:
Alysa manages and co-ordinates the support and training provided for our technology enhanced learning applications. This spans second and third line support (via the web-based service desk), self-directed materials and drop-in sessions. She ensures that staff and students receive high quality support and guidance. Annette provides development support for technology enhanced learning applications via the IT Helpdesk. QMplus, Q-Review or other technology enhanced learning queries that need the skills of a Technology Enhanced Learning Technologist are passed to Annette to investigate. Annette also runs drop-in sessions, training workshops and student induction talks. You will mostly communicate with Annette via the Helpdesk or during a workshop or drop in you attend.
Annette is the TEL team’s lead for the QMplus H5P tool and also oversees our support via the IT Helpdesk (Ivanti).

Catherine is a Learning Technologist within the Enhancement strand of the team. She works with Zaheer, Clare and Will to investigate new technologies.

Clare provides advice and workshops on all aspects of technology enhanced learning with an emphasis on video. She is also our lead for use of Zoom and Teams. Contact Clare if you would like to know more about these technologies, developing use of video in teaching, using the recording booths, video in the classroom or would like your students to create video as part of their coursework.

Gill provides business ownership of QMUL’s suite of digital learning applications to ensure they consistently meet the needs of the institution in delivering an excellent student and staff experience. Working in the team’s Services strand with Rume, Simon and Steve she ensures that our applications continue to meet the needs of staff and students through evaluative exercises and consultation. She also works closely with the technology experts within the team and other colleagues in IT Services who support our applications.

John provides development support for technology enhanced learning applications via the IT Helpdesk. Raqib provides development support for technology enhanced learning applications via the IT Helpdesk and/or Email. He also runs QMplus drop-in sessions, technology enhanced learning training workshops and student induction talks. You will mostly communicate with Raqib via the Helpdesk or during a technology enhanced learning workshop or drop in you attend..

Rume works with Gill, Simon and Steve in the team’s Services strand ensuring that our learning applications are run well and continue to meet the needs of our staff and students. Rume is often involved in the introduction of new features or custom developments for QMplus, working closely with both staff and students and our in-house development team.
Rume is the team’s lead for the Turnitin plagiarism detection service and our e-portfolio system, QMplus Hub (Mahara).

Simon works with Gill, Rume and Steve in the team’s Services strand and provides both educational and developmental support in the effective use of video in teaching, learning and assessment. He provides expert support and advice to academic and professional services staff within QMUL interested in creating diverse materials (videos, screencasts etc.) to support teaching in various modes, be that blended, distance or face-to-face.
Simon is the team’s lead for Q-Review (Echo360), our institutional lecture recording system and for our video recording booth based on the Mile End campus.

Steve is a Learning Technologist in the team’s Services strand. He works alongside Gill, Rume and Simon in ensuring that our learning applications are run well and continue to meet the needs of our staff and students. He has a particular focus on the continuous development of QMplus working with staff and other colleagues in IT Services to continuously improve the system.
Steve is the team’s lead for the Mentimeter audience response system.

Surjit oversees all of the team’s services and is responsible for developing technology enhanced learning to support the ambitions of Queen Mary and in line with innovative developments outside of the institution. Zaheer Daleel has joined QM as the TEL Enhancement Manager in the Technology Enhanced Learning Team (TELT). Zaheer and his team look into ways of enhancing current learning technologies and introducing new such technologies to Queen Mary. They’ll soon be developing ‘Communities of Practice’, a new TELT Profile, and investigating innovative ways to develop technological solutions for QMUL staff and students.
Zaheer’s previous role was as TEL Manager at King’s College London, where he spent a happy six years developing tools, processes and digital literacy for all stakeholders. He worked very closely with both in-faculty and central-TEL colleagues to bring the TEL community closer & more aligned with best practices, and to share expertise.
He is a proud former school/FE teacher of PE & Business Studies and he now coaches sport several nights a week at the Newham College Sports Academy.
