On June 12, 2023, we marked a significant milestone in our commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion with the ITS Women in Tech Launch event. The occasion was graced by esteemed guest speakers, including Heidi Fraser-Kraus, CEO of JISC, and Liz Grand, EDI and Inclusion Manager at QMUL. Their insightful perspectives and experiences resonated with the audience, providing valuable insights into the challenges and triumphs of women in the tech industry. The event witnessed a remarkable turnout, indicative of the enthusiastic support for our initiative. Not only was it a momentous launch, but it also set the stage for a future of empowerment, collaboration, and innovation. The success of the event reflects our collective dedication to creating an inclusive environment where every woman in tech at ITS can thrive and contribute meaningfully to our shared journey.
The Heads of Service Showcase, organised by the Women in Tech Committee, an event series designed to foster connection and understanding across ITS. These sessions provided staff with the opportunity to hear directly from our Heads of Service about their career journeys, departmental objectives, and the challenges they face. Each presentation was followed by an interactive Q&A session, encouraging engagement and open dialogue. This initiative not only highlighted the diverse expertise within our leadership team but also strengthened collaboration and awareness across the department.

AQ WiT Event
Date: Thursday 13 March 2025
Time: 12.30-1.15pm
Location: MS Teams Webinar
This year’s International Women’s Day theme is “Accelerate Action” emphasizing the importance of taking swift and decisive steps to achieve gender equality; a worldwide call to acknowledge strategies, resources, and activity that positively impact women's advancement, and to support and elevate their implementation.
One way that we can support quicker action is by encouraging younger generations to understand the amazing opportunities that are available to them, and help inspire them to do great things. This mirrors the values of the AQ WiT group, and why we are delighted to be able to partner with Tech She Can, a charity that inspires and educates all children, but especially girls and women to study technology subjects and pursue technology careers so that they have an equal opportunity to participate in the jobs of the future.
We have invited Becky Patel, Head of Education and Learning at Tech She Can, to join us to introduce the charity, the impact they make, and ways that we can support them both as individuals and as a group in the future.
RSVP to register for the event
This will be the start of what we hope will be a partnership with Tech She Can; we hope to organise a group volunteering session with our AQ WiT members to help inspire girls to be tech leaders of the future! We would love this group to become more than a professional networking group and to support taking action for a cause close to our hearts.
WiT25 – Women in Tech annual conference
Date: Wednesday 14 May 2025
Location: Holiday Inn Liverpool City Centre | Lime Street, Liverpool, L1 1NQ
About the Event:
Empowering Innovation: Women Shaping the Future of Technology
With technology seemingly moving at pace at the moment, the conference will showcase how women are contributing to and using the current wealth of technologies at our disposal and how we can improve these technologies going forward. There are so many opportunities for innovation within further and higher education, and we want to hear from the women leading the way!
Whilst AI is immediately on everyone’s lips, whole other clusters of technologies are emerging e.g. immersive technologies; automation; internet of things and smart campuses; ways of maximising social media and collaboration tools; data insights and data-driven decision making etc. However, as we know, the rapid rate of change can also bring challenges: governance and data protection; cultural changes; ethical and moral issues; trustworthiness and those can intertwine with being a woman.
