What is Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI)?
HCI is a type of modern Data Centre Infrastructure, used to provide servers and storage to host services and applications.
There are some services and applications that cannot be migrated to the Cloud. These need to remain in our existing Data Centre and will be hosted on HCI.
Why migrate to HCI?
Our existing Data Centre Infrastructure is end of life and no longer supported. Extending the lifespan has a significant cost and operational risk. The solution is a new, smaller, more efficient and more cost-effective infrastructure.
How
We will be transitioning services from the old Data Centre Infrastructure to the new HCI Infrastructure.
The migrations will involve brief interruptions to services, including those that support education and underlying infrastructureKey operational periods will be avoided to ensure minimal disruptionThe migration timeline will be coordinated with the business owners of each service to limit operational impact Business owners will assign a tester for each service once migratedArchitecture planning and the test process will be finalised prior to each migration
