IT Services

Project Overview

Journey to Cloud will be looking to adopt public cloud as the method for hosting, managing and maintaining our services. This will mean moving as many of our on-premises services to the cloud. This project will touch almost every user of our services during its delivery as during the transition of services to the cloud there will be brief periods of unavailability. This will of course require full consultation with stakeholders across the university to ensure business operations are not impacted during the transition time. The main benefits this project will bring will include:

  • Increased performance and availability of services.
  • Increased ability to increase capacity of systems/services during peak periods of the year, such as the start of term, clearing and exams.
  • Increased geographical availability of services.
  • A faster delivery of new programmes, initiatives, and innovation in response to research and education opportunities – capability to roll out new services quicker.
  • Optimisation of the cost of services.
  • More data driven services, allowing more data driven decisions.
  • Increased ability to leverage opportunities for AI and machine learning.
  • Reduction in carbon footprint.
  • Improved security, compliance and governance.

The project will impact almost every user of IT Services provision, as during the project there will be brief periods of unavailability to our services. IT Services will work with the University community to ensure that business operations are not impacted during these periods. The project will run for around 12 months, with the goal of having most of this complete by April 2025.
