Broadband Issues

  • If you are connected to QMUL using the AppsAnywhere or a managed laptop, avoid using the device for any non-work internet services, particularly video streaming.
  • If you connect via Wifi make sure you have a good strong signal and try to move closer to your router where possible.
  • Be aware of what everyone else at home is doing on the internet and work with them to not overload things when you need to work.
  • Giving your broadband router a reboot from time to time can help prevent issues.
  • Ensure you are aware of your broadband contract details, usage limits, and make sure you know the contact and account details for your internet service provider in case you need to talk to them for technical support.
  • You can also use your phone as a personal WiFi hotspot if performance on your broadband is poor but find out your data usage limit and what’s included in your contract regarding tethering (instructions below to enable tether service on your mobile phone).

More tips on how to improve your home broadband service can be found here.
