The Queen Mary Legal Advice Centre students deliver free bespoke workshops to groups of young people in local secondary schools. These workshops aim to educate young people on the law and issues surrounding the sharing of intimate images. Each workshop is specifically designed for the needs of the school or organisation, and we can tailor the workshop to adapt for different sized groups of young people (e.g. assemblies, classes, small target groups).
All Queen Mary Legal Advice Centre undergraduate law students running these workshops have received Safeguarding Training, undertaken DBS checks and are supervised on the day by qualified volunteer lawyers. So far, in academic year 2021-22, we have delivered workshops to over 600 students to schools in Tower Hamlets and across the country.
The SPITE for schools project is an excellent opportunity to enhance public speaking, communication and team work skills. I think that the issue of image-based sexual abuse is something which is overlooked by many young adolescents. I am thrilled to be taking part in this project. It is also quite fun animating the workshops to make them more engaging and interesting for the students!— Nina Roheman
Queen Mary Legal Advice Centre Students Justinne Shoshana Leibovici, Abhishek Sinh Jhala and Efstratia-Konstantina Rokkou have produced a video for the SPITE project. The video shows an example of image based sexual abuse and the law around sharing intimate images.
