Students and staff from the School of Law at Queen Mary University of London are to take part in the London Legal Walk 2014.
Queen Mary's Legal Advice Centre, Bar Society, Pro Bono Society and Law Society will join teams of legal professionals in the 10km walk, which starts at the Royal Courts of Justice in London on Monday 19 May.
2014 marks the 10th anniversary of the event, which aims to attract a record number of walkers in support of access to legal justice. Last year, more than 7,500 people took part in the event and raised over £530,000 for free legal services.
This is the sixth year that the Legal Advice Centre will take part in the event and the fourth time for the Bar Society. The Queen Mary team is raising money for the London Legal Support Trust and the Sonvico Bursary Award set up by the Criminal Bar Association in memory of QMUL alumnus Gianni Sonvico.
Julie Pinborough, Centre Manager for the Legal Advice Centre, said:
“This year has seen an even greater number of legal services cut, not just those funded by legal aid; it’s vital that the School of Law – and others like us – support the London Legal Walk and other fundraising events so these closures don’t continue to happen. "
