A new book by Nigel Spencer (Director, Hub for Professional Practice, School of Law, QMUL) and Mike Mister (Hon. Professor, School of Law, QMUL and Partner, PSFI). Published by Edward Elgar
As a partner in a private practice law firm, you are – by default – a leader in the firm. But how do you best develop your partnership career, over what may be a period of 20 years (or more) in the role? What should you do upon promotion to partner? Or later, when you are an established partner, and may take up a group or office leadership role? How can you best maximise your role as a senior partner – and then effectively transition out of your role as partner, and potentially out of the firm too? Finally, how do you best navigate those “perennial” leadership challenges that all partners face and can arise at any point over your career?
In their newly published book, “Managing Your Leadership Career in Law: A Partner’s Guide”, Mike Mister and Nigel Spencer offer a practical, “how to” guide for partners on all these topics. The book aims to coach partners through the transitions in their partnership career, guiding them on: “What do I need to know, do, and what skills must I build, to be successful at each stage of my leadership journey as a partner in the firm?” Additionally, Mike and Nigel also offer guidance for those “leading the leaders”: the Practice Group Leaders, Managing and Senior Partners who need to help the partners in their firms to thrive over this significant period in their careers.
