The Energy and Natural Resources Law Institute presents a guest lecture by Rupert Bondy, BP.
Rupert began his career as a lawyer in private practice. In 1989 he joined US law firm Morrison & Foerster, working in San Francisco and London, and from 1994 he worked for UK law firm Lovells in London. In 1995 he joined SmithKline Beecham as Senior Counsel for mergers and acquisitions and other corporate matters. He subsequently held positions of increasing responsibility and, following the merger of SmithKline Beecham and GlaxoWellcome to form GlaxoSmithKline, he was appointed Senior Vice President and General Counsel of GlaxoSmithKline in 2001.
In 2008 he joined energy company BP as Group General Counsel, with worldwide responsibility for legal and compliance matters.
Rupert obtained his undergraduate degree from Kings College, Cambridge and was then a Harkness fellow in jurisprudence and philosophy of law at Harvard University. He also spent a year as a teaching fellow at Stanford Law School, where he obtained a masters degree in law. Rupert is a member of both the English Bar and the California Bar.
In this lecture Rupert will provide an overview of things which have taken up the bulk of his time since becoming General Counsel at BP, ranging from Macondo to recent sanctions on Russia
