Time: 11:45am - 1:00pm Venue: Lecture Theatre, Centre for Commercial Law Studies, Queen Mary University of London, 69 Lincoln's Inn Fields, London, WC2A
The Energy Law Institute is pleased to announce it's second Friday Lecture Series on the 28th February 2020. The lecture is titled 'The GC’s Challenge in an Uncertain World' and will be delivered by Mr Eric Nitcher, responsible for legal matters across the BP group.
Navigating today’s business, regulatory and legal environment can be both challenging and filled with significant uncertainties. Eric Nitcher, BP’s Group General Counsel, will speak about how his role as an oil and gas industry lawyer has changed over the past few years, including how dealing with emerging environmental and social issues, the cyber security threat and proliferation of sanctions has required him to change the way he approaches the practice of law.
Mr Eric Nitcher is responsible for legal matters across the BP group. Eric began his career as a lawyer in the late 1980s where he worked in the law firm of Kahrs, Nelson, Fanning, Hite & Kellogg in Wichita, Kansas.
In 1990 he joined Amoco as Litigation and Regulatory Counsel and following the formation of BP p.l.c. in 2000, he moved to London to head up the Legal M&A team and then Managing Counsel for the newly formed TNK-BP joint venture. Following a short departure from BP he re-joined in 2007 as Special Counsel and Chief of Staff to BP’s America’s Chairman and President, where he worked on numerous high profile legal issues. He subsequently was appointed to manage several and varied special projects within Upstream, Mumbai, India working with Reliance Industries and negotiating government and private legal claims arising out of the Deepwater Horizon accident. Eric was appointed as BP’s Group General Counsel in January 2017.
