Israel and the question of apartheid: Will the elections make a difference?

9 April 2019

Time: 6:00 - 7:30pm
Venue: Room 1.2, Center for Commercial Law Studies (QMUL), 67-69 Lincoln's Inn Fields, London, WC2A 3JB

In this talk, Prof. Neve Gordon from the School of Law at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) will discuss the Israeli elections and how they might impact the Palestinians living in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, East Jerusalem and the diaspora. The question he will pose is whether Israel can be characterised as an apartheid regime and what can be done to change the course of history in order to secure the rights of Palestinians.

A professor of international law at QMUL, Neve Gordon’s research focuses on international law, human rights, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the ethics of violence. Gordon wrote Israel’s Occupation (University of California Press 2008) co-authored The Human Right to Dominate (Oxford University Press 2015), and edited two volumes, one on torture in Israel and the other on marginalised perspectives on human rights. His co-authored book Human Shields: A Legal and Political History is scheduled to be published in 2020.
