In this series of talks, the Forum hosts both natural and social scientists to discuss topical issues around the idea of decentering the human.
We first investigate the nature of animal sentience and explore the philosophical and regulatory implications of this phenomenon. We then focus on the cognitive abilities and behavioural patterns of non-humans, with particular emphasis on insects, to determine how animal ethology should influence normative interactions between humans and non-humans. Finally, we query whether artificial intelligence has sufficiently developed to merit direct ethical consideration and how this should translate into emerging regulatory frameworks. We hope that by merging the intellectual contributions of both the natural and social sciences we will enable more fruitful conversations regarding the limits of anthropocentrism.
