An academic from Manchester University believes there is evidence to suggest one of the plotters planning to blow up the Houses of Parliament may not have been guilty. Henry Garnet had smuggled over Luisa de Carvajal, a Spanish lady, and she wrote a series of letters at the time. The research suggests Garnet may have known about the plot but he became mixed up in the conspiracy and was wrongly arrested. Professor Lobban says the prosecution pointed the finger at Garnet as the chief director and commander of the plotters. He commented: "The kind of evidence allowed at this time to convict people of treason was often very loose.”Please click here to link to the article
