A team of students from the School of Law at Queen Mary, University of London have again demonstrated a high level of skill in written and oral advocacy by finishing in the final 32 teams of the Willem C Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot – the largest moot court competition in the area of international law.
228 universities from 57 countries took part in the competition, which is held annually in Vienna.
The aim of the moot is to foster the study of international commercial law and arbitration for resolution of international business disputes and to train tomorrow’s leaders in methods of alternative dispute resolution.
After seven months of hard work and long hours the team lost in the round that would have qualified them for the top 16. Queen Mary LLM student Shabana Saleem received an honorable mention for her oral advocacy skills.
Queen Mary’s team members for the oral rounds were LLM students (pictured from left to right): Valeria Grazzuizi, Shabana Saleem, Ian Yap and Muhammad Shahzad. The team also consisted of brief writers: Chao Han, Shana Hofstetter, Chinaros Asava-Aree, and Fabien Moles.
The team studies international arbitration and commercial law courses and was coached by Angie Raymond and Stavros Brekoulakis, members of the School of International Arbitration within the Centre for Commercial Law Studies at the School of Law.
