Hate speech is a criminal offense in a whole variety of countries, but the legitimacy and prudence of hate speech bans are regularly contested, and not the least in Denmark. The seminar brings together two leading international experts on the issue – a defender and an opponent – in order to bring further our understanding on what is at stake in the question whether hate speech should – or should not – be criminalised: Eric Heinze, Professor of Law and Humanities, Queen Mary, University of London and Henning Koch, Professor of Constitutional Law, University of Copenhagen. The seminar is organised by the Institute for Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies (Minority Studies) at the University of Copenhagen on Wednesday 6 April, 15.15-17.00.
