Professor Kate Malleson - Judges face scrutiny on their backgrounds

Published:

Constitutional specialists, including Professor Kate Malleson of Queen Mary, University of London and Professor Robert Hazell of University College London have advised the Lords Constitution Committee that parliament should be involved in the selection of senior judges to the Supreme Court and heads of division in the Court of Appeals. They also recommended that the Judicial Appointments Commission should offer three names rather than one, and the Government's choice should then appear before the Lords Constitution Committee, Commons Justice Committee or both.
