Professor Geraldine Van Bueren pens letter to The Times on Conservative plans to leave the European Convention of Human Rights

Published:

Geraldine Van Bueren, Professor of International Human Rights at Queen Mary University of London, has written a letter to The Times explaining that leaving the European Convention of Human Rights would make it even more difficult for the UK to justify retaining its permanent seat in the UN Security Council.

Professor Van Bueren argues that leaving the treaty because "we do not like its court's decisions" would "weaken the authority of the UK to criticise (and take) UN Security Council action on grave human rights violations that threaten international peace and security".
