Queen Mary Law Phd Student gains internship with the International Law Commission of the United Nations

Maria Xiouri, a second year law PhD student at Queen Mary University of London, has been admitted to do an internship with the International Law Commission of the United Nations. Maria will work on the topic 'Treaties over time/Subsequent agreements and subsequent practice in relation to interpretation of treaties', as an assistant to the Special Rapporteur, Professor Georg Nolte (Chair in Public International Law-Humboldt Universität zu Berlin).

Maria is one of only two PhD candidates that have been selected by Special Rapporteur Nolte to assist him during the 66th session of the International Law Commission this May.

The subject of Maria's thesis at Queen Mary is 'The termination or suspension of a treaty as a result of its material breach and the relationship with countermeasures' and she is supervised by Professor Malgosia Fitzmaurice and Dr Phoebe Okowa.
