Channel 4 News spoke to Dr Prakash Shah, Reader in Culture and Law at Queen Mary University of London, last week as Indian protesters say a new law is needed in the UK to prevent the sort of caste discrimination often seen in India taking root in the UK. He said: “Well if you look at the main organisations which are lobbying for the legislation you’ll see that there are close linkages between the dalit organisations who argue for the legislation and in fact the churches throughout Europe.
