Dr Violeta Moreno-Lax, lecturer in law at QMUL and co-chair of The Refugee Law Observatory, has been interviewed by Talk Radio News Service (TRNS) on the recent migrant tragedies occurring in the Mediterranean.
In the interview she expresses her hope that the disaster 'touches the hearts of millions' and also her reservations regarding the European Union's potential plans to establish refugee camps in northern Africa in order to give migrants an alternative to the dangerous water crossing:
"There are a host of problems that would stand in the way of pursuing that particular avenue. So, for example, the right to leave any country including one’s own, the right to seek asylum [...] search and rescue should be privileged as the right course of action, instead of actually going with extraterritorial camps."
