Dr Kara Tan Bhala is the inaugural Visiting Fellow for the Institute for Regulation and Ethics (IRE) at the Centre for Commercial Law Studies, Queen Mary University of London.
Dr Tan Bhala is the President and Founder of a think-tank, Seven Pillars Institute for Global Finance and Ethics, whose mission is to highlight and analyse issues of moral philosophy in global financial markets with a view to enhancing ethical practice and policy. She is also a Member of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR). She has more than twenty-three years of experience in global finance, much of which was gained through working on Wall Street.
Dr Kara Tan Bala will be Visiting Research Fellow at the IRE from January 2015 to January 2017. During her visit she will give public talks, lecture to students of the module on Ethics in Business and in Finance, assist Dr Costanza Russo on her empirical research on codes of conduct in the banking sector and contribute to the book on Ethics in Banking and in Finance that will be edited by Dr Costanza Russo and Professor Rosa Lastra. Her first presentation will be on 2 February on the topic of 'The Philosophical Foundations of Ethical Behaviour' and forms part of the CCLS Open Lectures: Ethics in Business and Finance series.
