Dr Andromachi Georgosouli, a Senior Lecturer at the QMUL's Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS), became the holder of a prestigious scholarship under the ECB Legal Research Programme (2016). Her project is about the robustness of the recognition rules of the Bank Recovery and Resolution Directive (BRRD). Although the BRRD does not cover the resolution of insurers, the findings of this research are expected to inform future policy and legal reform in the field of insurance regulation. As Dr Georgosouli notes, ‘the issue of recognition is also of huge importance for the orderly resolution of Global Systemically Significant Insurers (G-SIIs). Learning from experience with the resolution of banks can help to some extent avoid pitfalls, as we go about resolving a G-SII in the future.’
