Eric Heinze, Professor of Law and Humanities at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), was awarded in a major research grant worth 1.25 million euros under the framework of the NWO HERA (Humanities in the European Research Area) programme. The project will involve a four-member European Consortium on Memory Laws in European and Comparative Perspectives over a three-year period and will examine the content, contexts, and policy implications of European memory laws as tools whereby states prescribe “required” or “correct” interpretations of historical events. This was one of only 18 projects finally selected from an initial pool of over 600 proposals.
