Dr Ruth Fletcher, Senior Lecturer in Medical Law at Queen Mary, was interviewed by Politics.co.uk about abortion laws in Northern Ireland. She said: “This moment of looking at decriminalisation in Northern Ireland is actually possibly going to give us the pathway for decriminalisation in England and Wales. Because abortion is accessible in England and Wales, there isn’t the same sort of grass roots demand perhaps that there is in Northern Ireland, and so in a way the emphasis on improving the situation in Northern Ireland is creating a political moment, which could enable reform recommendation that everybody thinks medically, and in terms of the respective reproductive autonomy, is the best solution.” Listen to the full interview.
