Dr Ruth Fletcher participated in a live television discussion of the Irish abortion referendum on RTE Claire Byrne Live.
She argued in favour of repealing the Eighth Amendment, which makes the right to life of the ‘unborn’ equal to the right to life of the pregnant woman, prevents the liberalisation of abortion law and compromises consent rights during pregnancy.
Dr Fletcher said that Ireland had “a grave situation of legal injustice” and that the current constitution prevented lawyers like herself from advising women on how they could access medical care.
