ISCI's Dr Thomas MacManus and Professor Penny Green discuss the plans for Burma’s Rohingya population to be repatriated from Bangladesh to Myanmar. “It’s a problem to be talking about repatriation at this stage”, Dr MacManus said. “People are being asked to come back into an area where they were murdered, raped and burned out of, and nothing has changed.” He added that it is “very odd” to be going through this process “without the voice of the Rohingya at the negotiating table”. On the subject of the international community, Professor Green said: “We’ve seen no action. This is a genocide [but] because the international community has refused to call it a genocide, they have not been obliged to act.”
