Dr Thomas MacManus speaks on ICC decision on suspected deportations of Rohingya Muslims

Dr Thomas MacManus, Research Fellow at the International State Crime Initiative, spoke about the International Criminal Court (ICC) decision to seek jurisdiction over suspected deportations of Rohingya Muslims from Myanmar to Bangladesh on Al Jazeera. He said: “The decision by the ICC is unprecedented but it’s not entirely surprising. Its unprecedented because no one has asked the question before.” He added: “You have two states and a border, so to deport someone you need to move them from one state to another. So the ICC was asked if that second state is a member can the crime then be within the jurisdiction and they agreed today that it is.” Watch the full interview:
