A Brexit case of great complexity and even greater importance!

Professor Sionaidh Douglas-Scott, Anniversary Chair in Law at Queen Mary, wrote an article about the Continuity Bill in the UK Supreme Court. Professor Douglas-Scott writes: “This Continuity Bill is designed to prepare the Scots legal system for Brexit, but the UK government argues it conflicts with the UK EU Withdrawal Act (EUWA) recently granted royal assent, and so falls outside Holyrood’s competence.

In fact, this case raises not only the vexed issue of Brexit, but the equally vexed issues of devolution and the strained relationship between Scottish and UK governments, which in turn ultimately raises a question mark over the continued existence of the United Kingdom. Ignore it at your peril.”
