Hugo Wolfe, from Southampton, is studying the LLM in Medical Law with Queen Mary University of London. He is a Representative for the course and has enjoyed working with faculty and students to organise a series of academic and professional events. Outside of class, Hugo is also involved with volunteering to promote legal representation with the Free Representation Unit which is next door to QMUL’s Centre for Commercial Law Studies in Holborn. On weekends, Hugo enjoys rock climbing with friends.
Hugo recently had an article published in BioNews discussing how South Norfolk has bucked the national trend to increase funding for IVF. Read what he had to say about studying the Medical Law LLM and how it has supported him in writing for Bio News.
“My decision to study with QMUL was influenced by the academics who teach the LLM. Each are specialists in their field and provide a variety of interesting seminars throughout the course. You can also join mooting competitions, writing internships, academic societies and more while making the most of London’s career opportunities.
I wanted to join the writing internship with BioNews because of my interest in Medical Regulation and developments in Assisted Reproduction. The training at BioNews’ head office and ongoing support have improved my writing constructively whilst giving me an insight into the larger charity, Progress Educational Trust, and their work on Genetics, Assisted Conception and Embryology.
Since joining Queen Mary, my LLM has tested and strengthened my academic interest in Medical Law. There are ample opportunities to debate during seminars and conduct further research within the specialism. One of the best opportunities is to work with students from different specialisms. Some have chosen a range of modules which encourages interdisciplinary approaches and ideas.
