Daragh Murray spoke to ComputerWeekly.com about the how the use of AI could improve compliance with international humanitarian law.
The House of Lords held their first AI weapons committee recently, where experts discussed whether artificial intelligence in weapon systems will help military organisations to improve their compliance with international humanitarian law (IHL).
Daragh Murray, Senior Lecturer and IHSS Fellow at Queen Mary University of London, argues it could improve compliance with IHL. He said: “It can take a lot more information into account, it doesn’t suffer from fatigue, adrenaline or revenge, so if it’s designed properly, I don’t see why it couldn’t be better in some instances”.
